Critics said Shankar music was not getting the means of Sailendra for a justifiable expression. The politics of music business had taken toll of his business viability and scope in the silver screen. When we discuss about the music composers of India, we inadvertently wonder about the real proponent of western music in India. The number one question would be why! Can we not discuss the composer in terms of his or her creativity and versatility. By the way, exploring western music would be the first task of western composers and NOT of Indian composers. Rather, we should ask who of all Indian composers has contributed in terms of confluence of Indian and western music, and has experimented in such experimentation.
If we go back to Indian music history, we would come across two composers Shankar Jaikishan and C Ramachandra had experimented and successfully blended Western music into Indian musical sect. Shankar’s Ajeeb Dastan (from Dil Apana Aur Preet Parayi) and Dilruba … (Rajkumar) emphatically and successfully achieved it in totality before anybody could even attempt. Of course in later years, R D Burman and Bapi Lahiri used western music and popular tunes significantly in 70′s.

If you scan through music parlor of today, you will see many music scores of Shankar Jaikishan (SJ) to be branded in the names of either singers or even actors. If you talk with persons from movie industry, they would not name the name of music composers of SJ albums even if they acknowledge the success of those movies due to its music. If you scan through TV channels regularly, you would come across birthday celebrations of many lesser known artists; but will find it rare to see a Shankar Jaikishan program. Yes, there is prevalent jealousy and customary hypocrisy towards Shankar-Jaikishan. Of course, there may be quite a few reasons behind this.

Since my childhood, I have been listening to Shankar Jaikishan music. As I grew, I took a studied interest about different aspects of their music in spite of my scanty knowledge about music as such. I have searched almost all music shops in the cities I lived, and took help of many friends to listen to different Shankar Jaikishan albums that I did not possess. Everytime I listened to a song, it spelled a great magical effect.
In spite of their towering contributions to the world of music, Shankar Jaikishan albums are not readily available in shops now due to bingo-commercial intentions. You need to have a mentor to promote your contribution! Well, then what will happen to people like us who like good music and cannot find it in a normal music shop or cannot learn more about the people who created these?
When I browse Internet, I come across websites of many mediocre composers and even singers (in India, we funnily ascribe a song to its singer more than its composer!); but cannot find a good website for Shankar Jaikishan. Thus I decided to create a website about the duo whose music has provided an invaluable company to me in all my solitude and during ups and downs.
