Film Sanyasi was one of the firsts Hindi film which had its background music also in Raga Bhairavi. As mentioned by my friend Mr Sebastian deSouza,he was specially invited from Goa for the musical arrangement of Film Sanyasi. While signing the contract with the Producer, Shankarji had made a condition that he would require violins and would not do with the synthesiser and with that he created the most memorable melodies for Film Sanyasi.
Indeed the music was path breaking even for S-J. After a long gap, Shankarjee could get his famed orchestra and recreated the lost magic with the help of Dattaramjee and Sebastianjee. However it did not create the desired impact in terms of many new assignments. One observation is the voice of LATA was quite different being more melodious despite the usual S-J high pitch, compared to her other contemporary songs of other music directors. The THEKA was certainly foot tapping with the brilliant use of both Tabla and Dholak. I have noticed how the musicians enjoy themselves when they play Tabla and Dholak for any song of SANYASI at the stage shows. All the S-J fans were strongly desiring such wonderful musical score from SHANKARjee and he did not disappoint them. They were truly thrilled and delighted. regards, Sanjay Tikotekar, Andheri W, Mumbai.
