Ilaiyaraaja Paying Tribute to Shankar Jaikishan

Maestro Ilaiyaraaja paying his tribute to master composer duo Shankar Jaikishan on their songs composed for Pining situations of love. The song is: “Yeh Shaam Ki Tanhaiyan” from the movie “Aah”. One of the beautiful solos ever sung by Lata Mangeshkar.

Shankar Jaikishan in Interview with Chris Cohen

Chris Cohen is a member of the band Cryptacize, an indie quartet whose recently released LP, Mythomania (Asthmatic Kitty). In an interview, he gracefully acknowledged that he follows Shankar Jaikishan music.

He tells, “… I really like Selda Bacgan, Fairuz, the film composers Shankar-Jaikishan, Group Doueh, Etoile de Dakar, the Pearl Sisters… we’re pretty much open to whatever is unique/exceptional… a lot of that music is older stuff….”

Written by Qamar Jalalabadi, this funny song from Basant (1960) composed by O.P.Nayyar contains the names of 4 music directors as well as the names of Rafi and Asha who have sung the song.

In fact, the great composer OPN paid tribute to SJ in a live TV program. He said Lata never sang for him but he was facinated by one song of SJ that Lata sang. Check this out:

Jaikishan statue unveiled at his birthplace Vansada

As a mark of respect, people of Gujarat led by Swami Sachidananda, SJ biography writer Dr. Padmanabh Joshi and Maharaja of Vansada have installed a statue of Jaikishan at his birthplace Vansada in Gujarat. The legendary composer Anandji (of Kalyanji-Anandji duo) was also present on the occasion along with his wife. The SJ fans including Sandeep Apte were also present.
